its over.  goodbye till next year Whistler.

Its been an amazing few days of shooting from the heli in Whistler.   Timing trips for good snow, sun, and conditions has been super hard this winter, but this one worked out perfect.

Here is a peak at what my last year of shooting looked like.  It was hard to narrow it all down to 4 minutes, but I think it gives a good idea of shooting snow from August to May.

I photographed Rapha’s SS14 line in Barcelona last November and it’s here, ready for you, now, for the summer. Thanks to James, Jack, Verity, Rob, Leon, Blandine, Anna, and all the wonderful folks at Rapha for their constant support over the years, for unlimited creative freedom, and for making these lookbooks feel like I’m shooting personal work. Plus it’s really fun to shoot off of a cargo bike. Serious core work.

I’ll have a full photo essay from this experience on my site later, but I’ve been slacking on the scanning front lately…

Zak Hale takes beatdowns and breaks shit for a living.  a fun living.   Lillehammer Norway, 2014.

It felt ironic that during the time of the Olympics going on in Sochi, instead of being there shooting it like i was in Vancouver, this time i was shooting jibbing in Lillehammer Norway, the site of the 1994 Winter Games.  It wasn’t planned that way, it just happened to work out.  We’d watch our friends on tv compete in the morning, then head out to shoot the other side of snowboarding at a place where gold medals were once handed out 20 years ago.  No one received medals on our trip, just lots of high fives and it felt just as good.

Feature story in the new Transworld Snowboarding from our road trip to Stewart BC last Spring.  Such fun times with Mikey Rencz, Jeremy Jones, Jussi Oksanen, Aaron Leyland and Justin Eeles.

Check out the new issue of Transworld Snowboarding to see the feature article on our road trip up to Stewart BC/ Hyder AK last spring.  We lucked out and after two days of driving there, got snowy days, sunny days, jumps, broken sleds, and a bunch of shots.  Here are a few of Jeremy Jones that explain the trip pretty well.

Fuck every media outlet that writes articles based on opinion from skiers that snowboarding is dying.  Snowboarding is alive and well and with someone like Danny Davis representing our sport people are sure to see the best side of it possible.  I’ve been working with and shooting Danny for almost 10 years now and his infectious laugh and personality have kept it fun since day one.   Best of luck in Sochi my friend and keep doing it your way.
